technology education overview

High Technology High School provides a focused yet complete high school education that stresses mathematics, science, and technology. Not only can technology be found in the tech and engineering classes, but it is integrated into all of the humanities classes. Each year at High Tech features different technology classes that build upon one another to prepare students for higher education and the workplace.

Attending High Tech has several unique advantages. The school is located in Lincroft, New Jersey, adjacent to the Advanced Technology Center on the Brookdale Community College campus. This allows students the opportunity to take college courses during their junior and senior years. Seniors are also required to take a mentorship course that pairs students with engineers, scientists, and researchers working in a technological field.

Classes are scheduled using a block system. There are five seventy-minute periods a day, with a single lunch break between 11:23 and 11:53. Most classes are held three times a week, with exceptions for certain subjects. All science classes have double labs that span two periods. AP Calculus classes meet for a fourth period each week. The junior and senior technology classes (Cisco Networking Academy and Brookdale Community College courses) are held two days a week for three consecutive periods each time.

Both the faculty and the students have found this schedule to be advantageous for learning. Students have more time to get things done in class and more time to do homework. Teachers have longer, uninterrupted blocks of time to instruct students and cover all the necessary material.
