On Wednesday 2/28, the Chess Team competed in the Shore High School Chess League Championship Tournament at Monmouth Mall. The team consisted of Jason Yan, Andrew Mascillaro, Eric Chai, Varun Tupuri and Alexander Postovskiy.

In the first round, they defeated Wall high school. In the second round, High Tech was paired against perennial powerhouse Holmdel. A tough battle ensued but High Tech was able to emerge with a decisive victory.

So, for the 10th consecutive year, High Tech had made it into the Shore HS Chess League Championship Match!! High Tech was pitted against St Joseph High School (from Metuchen) who defeated defending champion CBA in round 2.

An impressive battle ensued. After the dust settled on the 2 hour match, the teams were tied 2.5 to 2.5. A 15 minute blitz match would be needed to determine the league champion. So, the teams regrouped and did battle once again. The result of the 15 minute blitz was another tie!!! Another blitz match was required. This time it would be a 5 minute blitz. High Tech pulled out a 3 to 2 victory in the 5 minute bltiz to claim the title of Shore High School Chess League Champions!!!!
