HTHS Summer Camps for Middle School Students

Please read the following before proceeding:

  1. The camps listed on this page are managed by teachers from High Technology High School. If you would like to register for one or more of the HTHS camps, and/or see a list of all MCVSD summer camp offerings, please click here.

  2. Please see each camp’s description for its grade level.

  3. Campers should arrive 5 - 10 minutes early to check in each day. Please be available to pick your child up at the time the camp ends each day.

  4. Campers are required to bring their own lunch for camps that run from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

  5. Due to ongoing construction at High Technology High School, please note the location for each camp specified below.

  6. The camps are listed first by date and then alphabetically.


HTHS Makerbot 3D Printing & Engineering Design

Campers in the Makerbot 3D printing & engineering design camp learn how to use Autodesk software to design products and 3D print them using MakerBot 3D printers. This one week camp will cover entry level CAD software principles to feel confident in solving design problems and 3D print solutions.  Learn to read engineering drawings for manufacturing products designs that you can make and take home.

 Students will need email accounts (Gmail preferred) to activate classroom software.

HTHS Programming for Beginners

This week-long course is designed for middle school students with limited or no computer programming experience. Campers will use the Python programming language to explore programming topics such as variables, loops, data types and algorithm desgin. All concepts are taught at a level and pace in a fun environment that allows campers to fully develop their creative problem solving skills. HTHS students will serve as Teacher Assistants.  Students are required to bring their own lunch to the program. Please note that this is a one week camp that is being offered twice (please see the dates for each camp below).

HTHS VEX Robotics for Middle School Girls

Are you interested in robotics, coding, and working with others to build awesomely epic robots? If so, this is the camp for you! Working in teams you will obtain hands-on experience building, programming and controlling VEX robots capable of performing various tasks. The course will culminate with an event where the teams of students will be able to race their robots against each other in order to complete the game's goals. No previous experience is necessary. This camp is presented by HTHS cypHER, a team of HTHS female students focused on increasing girls’ exposure to robotics and programming. Please note that this is a one week camp that is being offered twice (please see the dates for each camp below).

HTHS Swiftie Summer Camp Fun

Swiftie Summer Camp offers an exciting blend of academic exploration and creative adventure. Campers dive into Taylor Swift's music, analyzing figurative language and uncovering powerful themes to enhance critical thinking and literary skills. Delving into Taylor Swift's biography and music history provides unique insights into her transformative career. Engaging activities, including poetry and songwriting workshops, choreography, fashion, and Taylor Swift-inspired crafts, foster creativity and self-expression. Inspired by Taylor Swift's philanthropy, we emphasize giving back and spreading kindness. Join us for a week of learning, creativity, and empowerment as we celebrate Taylor Swift's legacy and inspire young minds.

Wild Writing

Did you know that spending time in nature has been shown to lower stress levels, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve your mood? Nature is all around us, but too often we fail to really see it.  Spend the week immersing yourself in nature and practicing your observation and writing skills.  Over the course of the week, we will create a nature journal, practice translating our observations into creative nonfiction and poetry,  and learn from classic and contemporary nature writing.  Who knows- you might even come up with an idea for your college admissions essay! Field appropriate attire is recommended; please bring your own sunblock, bug spray and refillable water bottle. Students will be expected to bring a notebook and writing implement(s).

HTHS Dance Academy

During this summer dance intensive/camp participants will explore dance history, famous choreographers, strength and conditioning, and choreography. Campers will discover various dance genres, including musical theater, jazz, hip hop, ballet, and lyrical, while also gaining hands-on experience in choreography. The week-long journey culminates in an exciting final-day performance, allowing campers to showcase their skills and self-choreographed routines to family and friends, fostering a lifelong passion for dance and creativity. A week of dance, fitness, and fun!

HTHS Historical Technology Camp

Campers in the Historical Technology camp build and test several technologies while comparing the original designs historically and identify the advancements over the years of development. Technologies include, clinometers for measuring height, sundials for measuring time, 8 foot hot air balloons for transportation and other technologies. All students successfully demonstrate their technical products after building and testing. Student hot air balloons can reach 20 feet of height at launch which students find the most memorable activity.

Because we will be using tools, students are required to bring and wear long pants and closed toe shoes while in the technology lab. Safety glasses will be provided. Students also need email accounts (Gmail preferred) to activate classroom software for their designs.

HTHS Website Design for Beginners

This course is designed for middle school students with limited or no website design experience. Campers will acquire the skills to design websites using raw HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). They can choose to incorporate various technologies like hyperlinks, Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, tables, and more into their website development. Students are motivated to pursue independent website building beyond the camp's conclusion.

Culinary & ELA Adventures: Exploring the World of Food Literacy

Our social and cultural interactions are profoundly influenced by food. From eating our favorite snacks to learning the recipes our families share to visiting restaurants and food trucks, food unifies us. In this class, students will share experiences with one another through writing about food. Reviews, recipes, and memoirs will be explored as students mine their favorite foods for inspiration.

HTHS Program Robots with Arduino Microprocessors (Intro Level)

Campers in this 1 week introduction course learn how to program Arduino microprocessors at an entry level to control lights, motors, and other output components. Students will then program small robots while learning simple electronics at an entry level and incorporating Arduino microcontroller programming to robots. Utilizing their Arduino programming skills, students then compete against each other to test out their new skills at the end of the course.

HTHS Digital Circuit Technologies

This is where electrical engineering, the field of designing and developing new electronic equipment begins. Discover the inner workings of circuits by building electronic devices using resistors, LEDs, Integrated circuits, and more. Learn the basics of soldering techniques then move on to more difficult projects. Explore the inner workings of integrated circuit chips by building circuits on computers using logic gates. Completed projects may be taken home.

HTHS EmpowerHER Summit

Young women will participate in an enriching camp experience designed to ignite the spirit and empower participants to achieve limitless potential. Through engaging activities, interactive workshops, and SEL, we'll explore themes of self-identity, self-esteem, self care, leadership skills, and the power of inspiring female role models. Participants will discover the joy of embracing their individuality, develop strategies for building self-esteem and resilience, and learn effective communication and leadership skills. We'll also delve into the importance of self-care, exploring practices that nurture the mind, body, and spirit. This camp is a safe and supportive space where participants can express themselves freely, connect with like-minded peers, and build a network of support that will empower them throughout their life. Together, we'll celebrate their unique talents, foster their dreams, and empower them to become the leader they were meant to be.

HTHS Magnetic Levitation and Solar Technology

Campers in this one week summer course learn about Magnetic Levitation and Solar Technology. Students design, build, test and race a vehicle across a track. Students learn electronic concepts covering direct current obtained through solar cell power and build solar activated devices and competition skills to race their peers. The aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle shape is outlined in the success of transportation while students perform experiments and compete in races using a mag-lev track & their scaled vehicles.. An aerodynamically efficient body shape reduces friction between the air and the vehicle allowing for a scientific and fun filled race. 

Each student designs and builds a solar powered device and magnetic levitation car  to take home. Because we will be using tools, students are required to bring and wear long pants and closed toe shoes while in the technology lab. Safety glasses will be provided.  Students also need email accounts (Gmail preferred) to activate classroom software to create their designs.

HTHS CO2 Dragster Car Camp

Campers in the CO2 dragster car camp design, build and race against their peers on a race track. Learn how aerodynamics and compressed air can propel your race car to reach 60 miles per hour while utilizing 3D modeling software and provided parts. Each student will get to keep their dragster cars after the last day of class. Because we will be using tools, students are required to bring and wear long pants and closed toe shoes while in the technology lab. Safety glasses will be provided. 

Students will need email accounts (Gmail preferred) to activate classroom software to design CO2 dragster cars.
